After a hard day at school why not hit the water with Newcastle Surf School? Whether you are starting surfing or want to improve your surfing, our staff can help. It’s all about hitting the water, learning about the ocean and enjoying yourself at the beach.
After School Surfing with Newcastle Surf School
This program is about keeping the kids active after school while learning about the ocean and its dangers while learning the skill of surfing. Newcaslte Surf School have full length wetsuits available to keep you warm. School Pick Up is available. This program is run in terms 1, 2 and 4 and is run for 9 weeks each term.
Ocean Active Kids:
After School Program
This program is great for keeping the kids active after school while learning about the ocean and the skill of surfing. Ideal for working parents looking for something to keep the kids busy after school!
The After School Program runs:
- Term 1: Monday to Friday
- Term 2: Monday, Tuesday and Friday
- Term 4: Monday to Friday
Drinks and fruit supplied.
Free 3.30pm pick up from various schools by our 12-seat surf school bus.
Lessons run for 90 minutes from 4pm to 5.30pm.
5.30pm pick up by parents at Nobbys & Blacksmiths Beach.
Ocean Active Kids:
School Holiday Program
The school holiday program runs at both Nobbys Beach and Blacksmiths Beach. Each program runs for 5 days (Monday to Friday) at either 9am or 11am.

- Every participant will receive a Newcastle Surf School hat
- Lessons will run for 90 minutes.
Ocean Active Kids:
School Term Program (Saturdays or Sundays)
The school term programs run at both Nobbys Beach and Blacksmiths Beach. They run during school terms for 5 consecutive Saturdays or 5 consecutive Sundays at 9am or 11am.

- Every participant will receive a Newcastle Surf School rashie
- Lessons will run for 90 minutes.
Ocean Active Kids:
Learn and Thrive at Newcastle Surf School
Ocean Active Kids learn about:
- Entering the surf zone safely
- Negotiating through broken and unbroken waves
- Reading rips and currents
- Understanding types of waves
- Catching broken and unbroken waves
- Standing up
- Going across waves
- Maneuvering your board
- How to choose the right equipment for your kids.
For all Ocean Active Kids programs:
- Short and long wetsuits are available in all sizes
- Surf boards provided
- Kids are always accompanied by an instructor
- The group will enter and exit the water together- students are never by themselves
- Toilets and amenities to be checked by instructors before kids are changing
Alternative activities will be scheduled if the surf is dangerous. This may include rescues, paddling techniques, beach activities, body boarding, beach walks showing the dangers of rips and waves, and checking different beaches for swell direction.
